Today I have a little foodie review for you. On Saturday Night we went out for date night to Benson Blakes Bar & Grill in Bury St Edmunds. On arrival we were greeted by lovely waiting staff who were dressed all spooky for Halloween. We were seated straight away and had time to browse over the menu. For drinks I thought I would go with one of their Hard Shakes as I like to choose something new when given the choice. Hard Shakes are alcoholic milkshakes, I went for the Salted Caramel shake and Matt had a Corona.
We had the sharing Frito Misto for starters. The Frito Misto is salt & pepper squid, whitebait and shrimp with crispy capers and sorrel mayo. This was absolutely delicious, the seasoning was good, the seafood had a nice crisp to it, not over battered and covered grease which is the worst. The sorrel mayo was the perfect accomplice to the Frito Misto.
Mains, oh the mains! I absolutely loved it, we both chose the Big Ben Burger. The Big Ben is a beef burger in a brioche bun with BBQ brisket, bacon jam, russian dressing and oggleshield pickles. We also had a side of chips, which were in house prepped & cooked with skin on – perfect!
I had yet another Hard Shake as I was feeling wild :L This time I went for the Coffee option, which I believe was bourbon, rum and coffee. Well worth getting, the perfect warming autumnal tipple.
Anyways our food and experience at Benson Blakes was fantastic so I highly recommend, I would normally give the value for money but if I look up the pricing my other half will be miffed as he paid – what a sweetheart!
